For more than 20 years, I have had the privilege of helping children overcome learning challenges and discover that they are capable of success. My experience as an Education Assistant and Learning Support Worker with the North Vancouver School District, along with years of private practice, has given me the knowledge, patience, and expertise to support students with a wide range of learning needs.
Since opening my private tutoring practice in 2015, I have specialized in helping struggling readers develop the skills and confidence they need to become successful, independent readers. As a certified Orton-Gillingham Tutor and certified Phono-Graphix Reading Therapist, I combine two highly effective, evidence-based approaches to reading instruction. Every lesson is carefully tailored to meet each child's unique strengths, challenges, and learning style.
My background in Special Education includes certifications in Behaviour Management, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, and Supporting Students with Mental Health and Behaviour Needs. I am also an approved service provider through the Autism Funding Branch.
While my qualifications are important, what matters most to me is the connection I build with each child. I know that many students come to me feeling anxious, uncertain, or believing they "just aren't good at reading." My goal is to help them see themselves differently. I create a calm, positive, and encouraging environment where children feel safe to make mistakes, celebrate every success, and gain confidence in their abilities.
One of the greatest joys of my work is watching a child realize they can read. Seeing their confidence grow, their smiles widen, and their pride shine through is what inspires me every day. I believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience success, and I am committed to helping each learner unlock the door to literacy, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.
Every child deserves the confidence that comes with being able to read successfully. My goal is to help students unlock their full potential by providing individualized, evidence-based reading instruction in a supportive and encouraging environment.
I specialize in helping struggling readers, including students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, by combining two of the most effective, research-based approaches to literacy instruction: the Orton-Gillingham multi-sensory approach and the Phono-Graphix Reading Method. Together, these proven methods give students the skills they need to become accurate, confident, and independent readers.
Each student begins with a comprehensive reading assessment to identify their current reading level, strengths, and specific areas of need. From there, I create a personalized learning plan tailored to their unique learning style and pace.
Lessons are structured, sequential, and engaging, using visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile techniques to strengthen every pathway to learning. Concepts are taught step by step, ensuring that students build a solid foundation before moving on to more advanced reading and language skills.
More importantly, I believe that every student can succeed. As reading skills improve, so does self-confidence. Watching students discover that they can read—and begin to enjoy reading—is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work.
I work with children, teens, and adults, including students with dyslexia, learning differences, special needs, French Immersion students, and English Language Learners. My mission is not only to teach students how to read, but to help them believe in themselves, become confident, capable learners, and realize their full potential.
Andrea Galvin is without question the most gifted teacher my family has every met. While Andrea is the epitome of professionalism, she is also incredibly warm and genuinely caring. Andrea is thorough in her assessment and treatment planning and she provides regular feedback to keep our family on track. I could not recommend a better OG tutor for our son and he is always excited to attend her sessions. We travel to her multiple times per week and it is totally worth it!

My daughter went here for over 2 years, and I could not be happier with the progress she made over that time. She went from struggling to remember the letters of the alphabet and the phonetic sounds each make, thus being far behind her grade level, to being able to fluently read and understand grade level text. Furthermore, she had fun doing it! She was always quite happy to go for her tutoring at Read to Me Learning Centre, and she too feels enormous pride for how far she's come. If your child is struggling with these skills, I highly recommend you contact Andrea at Read to Me Learning Centre.
