Testimonials

I would highly recommend Andrea and the OG tutoring
method. My daughter started with minimal sound and word recognition and in 6 months I have seen great progress. Andrea is organized and excellent at communicating your child's progress. My daughter enjoyed going to tutoring and gained confidence in her reading ability.

Andrea has tutored my son through the Orton Gillingham approach for the past two years.  He is now reading at class level with excellent comprehension. Andrea is warm and caring with a great sense of compassion. She is a pleasure to work with. We would recommend her.

 Literacy Skills Assessments

Providing valuable assessment services to families/individuals in need.

  • Are you wondering what you or your child's reading level is?
  • Do you feel that your child needs to receive extra support at school but the school has said there are more severe cases than your child and that they would not be eligible for any formal assessments to be done?
  • Do you know that you or your child has difficulty reading/spelling/writing but not sure where the particular areas of challenge may lie?
  • Do you want to know EXACTLY what you or your child's literacy skills are?

Andrea Galvin provides Literacy Skills Assessments to parents/individuals that may suspect they or their child is struggling but need to have a precise report on what areas any challenges may lie. You don't have to become a student of Andrea's if all you require is the assessment.

The report includes phonological awareness skills, sight word knowledge, penmanship/letter formation skills, alphabet awareness/sequencing, sound/symbol knowledge, reading level, decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) skills. It also comes with valuable suggestions for at home and school support.

The assessment process takes 3 sessions and the report will be forwarded to families/individuals within one to two weeks.

Clients not only find this valuable information for themselves but they have also used the report in conjunction with the school to help develop Individual Education Plans and forwarded the very beneficial information to Teachers, Principals and Child Psychologists.

The report can also be used in School Based Resource Team meetings to help determine if your child needs extra support at school.

It can be thought of an important stepping stone to determine whether or not a Psychological Education Report needs to be done and breaks down EXACTLY what the student knows and any areas of weakness. The information in the Literacy Skills Assessment is a VERY detailed report.

Andrea can conduct the assessments in her home office, over FaceTime for out-of-town/remote clients or come into schools if her schedule allows.
